“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,” ~Matthew 28:19
Have you ever made a disciple?
Is there a recipe? What are the ingredients? How many steps are there? And how long will it take?
I wonder if disciple-making was easier back in Jesus’ day. There weren’t so many distractions. There was a lot more connection. And the culture was centered around the Jewish faith and its celebrations.
Today, if we go to church, the first thing we do is split up; children go to their rooms, adults head to the main chapel or auditorium. People often sit in the same spot, and if someone new arrives, why are they sitting in my spot?!?
But, as my pastor likes to say, “We can’t stay here.” God’s word is meant to transform us. It can’t do that if we’re not willing. And we aren’t willing unless we are actively trying to make ourselves a disciple of Jesus.
Years ago, I found freedom from food addiction (yes, this relates, I promise!) I learned that true transformation comes from creating a new identity, taking the right actions, and immersing myself in support. I’ve been living in a right-sized body for many years now, a feat almost unheard of in today’s culture without drugs or surgery (I used neither for my 100lb+ weight loss).
I want those same results in my journey with Jesus. I want Him to transform me day by day, through immersion in the Word and support from fellow followers.
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom" ~Colossians 3:16
This is why Disciple Together was born: to gather a community who want to discover, disciple, and transform – together.
